Alberta Innovates -Technology Futures Graduate Student Scholarships

The Alberta Innovates Graduate Student Scholarships program (GSS) is designed to enable promising students to succeed in areas of scientific research which are strategically important to Alberta. These areas are: Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Nanotechnology, and Omics; (Omics consists of: Genomics, Proteomics, Metabolomics, Transcriptomics and Regulomics.) in and of themselves or additionally which support the areas of Health, Bio-industries, Energy and Environment.

The scholarship is intended to support the recipient in concentrating his/her full time to the proposed research.

 
AITF Office Hours, February 7, 2012
Alberta Innovates - Technology Futures (AITF) welcomes graduate students needing assistance with their application for the AITF Graduate Student Scholarships to book office hours with Sarah Lee, Program Associate, Post Secondary Investments.

Sarah will be available on campus February 7th from 8:30am to 7:00pm to help you work through any questions regarding the program and eligibility as we approach the Feb 15 application deadline. Appointments will be held in 1-09 Triffo Hall. To book an appointment email Sarah Lee at sarah.lee@albertainnovates.ca

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS AND CANADIAN STUDENTS WHO DO NOT CURRENTLY HOLD AN NSERC AWARD

  • Master's Students: The Scholarship consists of a stipend of $26,500 pa
  • Master’s students are eligible for a maximum of two years of funding. If a candidate participated in a graduate program prior to commencing the GSS, (as determined by the registration date on their transcripts) the term of the scholarship will be reduced by one year for each academic year of participation prior to commencing the scholarship.* If a Master’s student who holds an AITF scholarship transfers to a doctoral program during the scholarship tenure, the term of scholarship may be extended up to a maximum of four years. The total award term is dependent on the start date of the student’s Master’s program.

  • Doctoral Students: The Scholarship consists of a stipend of $31,500 pa
  • Doctoral students are eligible for a maximum of four years of funding. For each full year they have been in their graduate program (as determined by the registration date on their transcripts) prior to commencing the Alberta Innovates Graduate Student Scholarship award, the term of scholarship will be reduced by one year, including any time spent completing a Master’s degree.

     


    NSERC AWARD HOLDERS (to be announced in Feb/March)

    • Canadian students holding a NEW NSERC award as of May 1, 2012, within the research areas described above are eligible to hold a GSS. This includes: a $11,500 pa scholarship for PGS awards or a $13,500 scholarship for CGS awards.
    • NSERC Julie Payette award holders will receive a $12,000 pa scholarship.
    • NSERC Vanier award holders will receive a $12,000 pa scholarship.

    Master’s students cannot receive more than a total of four years of combined master’s/doctoral funding from Alberta Innovates – Technology Futures including any funding from the heritage organizations (Alberta Ingenuity and iCORE).

    Students who have previously accepted support from AITF, Alberta Ingenuity or iCORE in a doctoral program are not eligible to apply for the NSERC Top-Up Scholarship.

    *PLEASE NOTE: Student's who have applied to the 2012 NSERC competition and are successfully awarded an NSERC scholarship in this year's competition, may apply if all eligibility criteria are met to the Alberta Innovates Technology Futures Graduate Student Scholarship NSERC Top-up Award. Please refer to the Graduate Student Scholarship Guidelines for additional program information.
