Travel Awards

The FGSR offers the following travel assistance awards so students can expose their research results and conclusions to peer review, test ideas with acknowledged experts, etc.

  • Mary Louise Imrie Graduate Student Award
  • J Gordin Kaplan Graduate Student Award
  • Profiling Alberta’s Graduate Students Award

The awards are offered at a maximum value of $1,100 for master's students and to a maximum value of $1,300 for doctoral students depending on the travel destination and the estimate of eligible expenses.

Funds for the Imrie and Kaplan awards are provided from endowments and funds for the Profiling Alberta’s Graduate Students Awards are provided by Alberta Advanced Education and Technology on an annual basis.

The trip should be a highlight of the student's research program and will involve attendance at a major national or international research gathering where the student must be actively participating by presenting a paper or poster session, exhibiting work, or participating in a panel discussion.

Travel awards are offered on a first-come, first-serve basis. The FGSR will offer as many travel awards as the endowments and the annual funding will support.

If all available funds have been spent prior to the end of the fiscal year, no additional applications will be accepted. Eligible students may receive a maximum of one travel award during a graduate program.
