Preparing Your Thesis

There are four steps in preparing and submitting your thesis to the FGSR.

Students should review these steps early--in the planning stages of thesis writing--and start once your supervisor/supervisory committee indicates your thesis is ready for defense.

Costs and Formatting

  • Graduate students are responsible for the costs of typing, production and reproduction of the thesis (including diagrams, photographs and other illustrative material) for the thesis copies required by the FGSR.
  • Students are ultimately responsible for the formatting of their theses. Failure to meet the formatting requirements may result in your thesis being rejected by Library and Archives Canada, and returned to you via your department for correction.

When to Submit

  • Theses approved by examination committees must be submitted within six months of the date of the final oral examination
  • There are submission deadlines for each convocation period and registration requirements when submitting your thesis. We recommend you submit your thesis a minimum of 3-5 working days before any deadline, as corrections may be required. See Thesis Submission Deadlines.
