Step 1: Format Your Thesis
Once you have completed the content of your thesis and your supervisor/supervisory committee indicates your thesis is acceptable for defense, you should format your thesis according to the specifications below.
These specifications ensure your thesis is compatible with standard established by University of Alberta Libraries and Library and Archives Canada (National Library).
| |
Note: |
Do not copy the specifications and/or formatting of theses written by other students in your graduate program as previously submitted theses may not conform to the technical requirements.
Students are ultimately responsible for the formatting of their theses and failure to meet the formatting requirements may result in your thesis being rejected.
|
The format requirements are the same whether you submit electronically or a hard-copy, however it is best to decide your method of submission early on. See Electronic Vs. Paper Submission.

Keep in mind your department will need to supply copies of your thesis to all examining committee members at least three weeks in advance (four weeks for doctoral external examiners) of your oral defense. This will ensure committee members have adequate time to appraise the thesis.
Your next step is Step 2: Prepare Your Thesis Approval/Program Completion Form.
