Minimum Admission Requirement
GPA
  • a four year baccalaureate degree or its academic equivalent from an academic institution recognized by the University of Alberta
  • 3.0 or higher GPA on a 4.0 scale on the most recent two years of full-time study (or equivalent)
English Language Proficiency
Applicants with degrees/qualifications in a language other than English may need to demonstrate English Language Proficiency through one of the following exam scores:
  • TOEFL: minimum score of 580 (paper-based) or a total score of 95 with a score of at least 22 on each of the individual skill areas (internet-based)
  • IELTS (Academic): minimum overall band score of 7, with at least 6 on each band
  • PTE (Academic): overall minimum score of 65

About the Department
  • MDes (Industrial Design and Visual Communication Design) provides a leading centre for research, practice and education in product, information, furniture, and exhibition design
  • MA (Art, Design and Visual Culture from early modern period to present) develops critical thinking and writing skills for professional work in museums, galleries, and other cultural contexts or further work at the doctoral level
  • MFA (Drawing and Intermedia, Painting, Printmaking, and Sculpture) provides students with the intellectual and physical resources to pursue an in-depth and focused exploration grounded in their particular discipline
