Minimum Admission Requirement
GPA
  • 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale on the most recent two years of full-time study (or equivalent)
  • MN: a baccalaureate degree or its academic equivalent from an academic institution recognized by the University of Alberta
  • PhD: a master of nursing degree or its academic equivalent from an academic institution recognized by the University of Alberta
  • NOTE: Meeting minimum requirements does not guarantee admission
English Language Proficiency
Applicants with degrees/qualifications in a language other than English may need to demonstrate English Language Proficiency through one of the following exam scores:
  • TOEFL: minimum score of 550 (paper-based) or a total score of 88 with a score of at least 20 on each of the individual skill areas (internet-based)
  • MELAB: minimum score of 85
  • IELTS (Academic): minimum overall band score of 6.5, with at least 5 on each band
  • CAEL: overall minimum score of 60, with at least 60 on each subtest
  • PTE (Academic): overall minimum score of 59
  • Students may be requested to take ESL 550 as a condition of admission
Other Requirements
  • One year of clinical nursing experience; for the NP program, 4500 hours of current clinical practice in adult care is required

  • students with a GPA of 3.5 or higher may be nominated for recruitment awards and scholarships
  • limited number of scholarships offered to excellent students to cover full-time tuition fees plus a guaranteed minimum stipend of $8,000 a year
  • teaching or research assistantships ranging from $1,500 to $8,000 a year may be available
