Minimum Admission Requirement
GPA
  • a baccalaureate degree or its academic equivalent from an academic institution recognized by the University of Alberta
  • 3.1 GPA on a 4.0 scale on the most recent two years of full-time study (or equivalent)
English Language Proficiency
Applicants with degrees/qualifications in a language other than English may need to demonstrate English Language Proficiency through one of the following exam scores:
  • TOEFL: minimum score of 580 (paper-based) or a total score of 92 with a score of at least 20 on each of the individual skill areas (internet-based)
  • MELAB: minimum score of 85
  • IELTS (Academic): minimum overall band score of 6.5, with at least 5 on each band (academic)
  • CAEL: overall minimum score of 60, with at least 60 on each subtest
  • PTE (Academic): overall minimum score of 62
Other Requirements
  • senior-level Religious Studies coursework during bachelor's studies
  • demonstrated reading competence in a language relevant to the proposed area of research (if applicable)
  • a statement of research interests (maximum 2 pages in length)
  • original degree certificates or certified copies
  • official transcripts (including English translations where applicable) from all colleges and universities
  • three letters of reference which must arrive under separate cover, or sealed with signatures of evaluators on back flap of envelopes
  • a current resume with CV form
