Time Limits for Completing Programs
Students in graduate programs are required to complete their degree requirements within set time frames.
| Master's Programs |
Thesis-based: |
students have four (4) years from their first term of registration to complete all degree requirements |

Course-based: |
students have six (6) years to complete their program, unless the department has opted for a shorter time limit |

Note: Any time spent as a qualifying graduate student is not counted in the time limit for completion. |
| Doctoral Programs |
students have six (6) years from their first term of registration to complete all degree requirements |
| |
Note: Master's students who are transferred to a doctoral degree must complete all degree requirements within six (6) years from their first term of registration as a master's student. Any time spent as a qualifying graduate student is not counted in the time limit for completion. |
A department-recommended Program Extension or Leave of Absence may be granted by the FGSR in exceptional circumstances.
