Registration in a department-designated 900-level project course is restricted to those students in course-based master’s degree programs. The department-designated 900-level project courses (eg, ECON 900) are considered the same as other scheduled courses and follow the regulations set out in the Calendar. Qualifying graduate students may not register in project courses.
Registration in THES is restricted to those students in thesis-based graduate degree programs. Qualifying graduate students may not register in Thesis.
Thesis sections are scheduled according to units of course weight equivalents for registration status and fee purposes. Students should consult with their department to determine which of the Thesis sections is appropriate. The selection will depend on the amount of time that the student will devote to work on the program. By registering in the appropriate Thesis designation (along with any other courses), the registration status of the student is calculated automatically.
THES 901 Thesis Research
*0 (fi 2) (either term). Represents research activity equivalent to *1 for registration status and fee assessment purposes. Approval of FGSR required.
THES 902 Thesis Research
*0 (fi 4) (either term). Represents research activity equivalent to *2 for registration status and fee assessment purposes. Approval of FGSR required.
THES 903 Thesis Research
*0 (fi 6) (either term). Represents research activity equivalent to *3 for registration status and fee assessment purposes.
THES 904 Thesis Research
*0 (fi 8) (either term). Represents research activity equivalent to *4 for registration status and fee assessment purposes.
THES 905 Thesis Research
*0 (fi 10) (either term). Represents research activity equivalent to *5 for registration status and fee assessment purposes.
THES 906 Thesis Research
*0 (fi 12) (either term). Represents research activity equivalent to *6 for registration status and fee assessment purposes.
THES 907 Thesis Research
*0 (fi 14) (either term). Represents research activity equivalent to *7 for registration status and fee assessment purposes.
THES 908 Thesis Research
*0 (fi 16) (either term). Represents research activity equivalent to *8 for registration status and fee assessment purposes.
THES 909 Thesis Research
*0 (fi 18) (either term). Represents research activity equivalent to *9 for registration status and fee assessment purposes.
These Thesis sections may be used in combination with course registrations in order to achieve the correct units of course weight for registration status, ie, full-time or part-time. For example, if a student registers in a 2-weight course, then the addition of THES 901 would bring the registration status to part-time (ie, 3 units of course weight).
THES 919 Thesis Research
*0 (fi 18) (either term) Represents research activity equivalent to *9 for registration status and with reduced fees assessed.
This Reduced-Fee Thesis was established for full-time, continuing doctoral students effective September 2003. In order to be eligible to register for this Reduced-Fee Thesis, the student must be in a non-cost recovery doctoral program, and must have been registered full-time (minimum of 9 course/thesis weights per term) in their current graduate program for a minimum of four Fall and/or Winter terms and have been assessed at least 18 units of fee index in each of those terms.
Effective September 2004, the Reduced-Fee Thesis was available for full-time, continuing thesis-based master’s students. In order to be eligible to register for this Reduced-Fee Thesis, the student must be in a non-cost recovery thesis-based master’s program, and must have been registered full-time (minimum of 9 course/thesis weights per term) in their current graduate program for a minimum of two Fall and/or Winter terms and have been assessed at least 18 units of fee index in each of those terms.
Spring and Summer term registrations may be used to calculate Thesis 919 eligibility, however the student must have been registered full-time (minimum of 6 course/thesis weights per term) in two consecutive Spring and Summer terms, [ie. registration in 6 course/thesis weights in a Spring term, plus registration in 6 course/thesis weights in the consecutive Summer Term is equivalent to a full-time registration (9 course/thesis weights) in one Fall or Winter term].
Students registered in a master’s thesis program who are transferring to a doctoral program may not have satisfied the eligibility requirements for registration in Thesis 919 in the doctoral program.
