Registration status for a term is automatically determined by the total course weight equivalents in which the student is registered for credit, including courses, project courses and/or thesis registrations. Audited courses are not included in the calculation of registration status.
Full-time
Students registered in a total of nine or more units of course weight in a term in Fall or Winter Term are considered full-time. This is the equivalent of at least three 3-weight courses per term.
Students who are not Canadian citizens or Permanent Residents who fail to maintain full-time status may jeopardize their standing with Citizenship and Immigration Canada.
Part-time
Students registered in fewer than nine units of course weight in a term in Fall or Winter Term are considered part-time. This is the equivalent of less than three 3-weight courses per term.
Maintaining Registration
Students who are not registered in any courses in a given term, and are not working on thesis or project research, but still wish to maintain their status as graduate students register manually through their department or the FGSR in Maintaining Registration (M REG 800). Fees are assessed. The time registered in Maintaining Registration is counted in the time limit for completion of the degree program.
Spring/Summer
In the Spring/Summer, a student is considered to be full-time if registered in:
- A course of 3 weeks duration with at least 3 course weights; or
- A course of 6 weeks duration with at least 6 course weights; or
- A course of 6 weeks duration with at least 3 course weights and attendance of 10 hours per week.
Students registered in less than these equivalents are considered part-time.
