Killam Memorial Chairs

The Killam Memorial Endowment funds at least two Killam Memorial Chairs at the University of Alberta in scientific and/or engineering fields.

Memorial Chairs are selected by a committee that is chaired by the Vice-President (Research) and includes the Provost and Vice-President (Academic), the Dean of the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research, and three representative faculty members.

Appointees receive tenure at the time of appointment and are subject to the Faculty Agreement. Holders of Killam Memorial Chairs at the U of A include:

• Dr Jack A Jacobs, Killam Memorial Chair and Professor of Physics, 1967-1974
• Dr Harry E Gunning, Killam Memorial Chair and Professor of Chemistry, 1968-1982
• Dr Hiroomi Umezawa, Killam Memorial Chair and Professor of Physics, 1975-1992
• Dr Terry M Caelli, Killam Memorial Chair and Professor of Psychology, 1982-1988
• Dr David W Schindler, Killam Memorial Chair and Professor of Biological Sciences (Ecology), 1989-present
• Dr Valeri Frolov, Killam Memorial Chair and Professor of Physics, 1993-present
